"Social media are media for social interaction using highly accessible and scalable communication techniques. Social media is the use of web-based and mobile technologies to turn communication into interactive dialogue."

Just Crazy !!! One can have the capability to reach 0 people (not me 15 followers-Twitter) or millions of people all over the world (Winning!)

Everyone can get to this, and use it--if you need to know what a person is up to,likes to read, movies, clothes, and so on--or even have someone tell you what else you might like--its right here--social media

Twitter--are you kidding me--It's like sending out a giant text message to the world-- is without

Back for more social interaction with twitter deck--once I was able to figure out how to open an account-Off I went

With TweetDeck you can set up saved interests and topics. Twitter uses hash marks (#) to indicate a topic and allow users to communicate messages just to people with that keyword as an interest.

Twitter deck was like having your cell phone for work, your cell phone for personal use,and watching entertainment tonight all at the same time-right in front of you. It was very hard for me to get a handle on how this works, just way to much going on-things popping up at me-people asking questions-how to relpy-the tag thing-and so on. But, if you take it slow, one step at a time I was able to make few rows--I even found a couple people to follow that talked about PE--more for the elementary level-a start

Once again, in the world of technolgy, the more one uses it the easier it becomes-but still not that easy (ha ha) I still get a little nervous when we learn about all these new social media methods that its sometimes hard for me to follow so fast--I just want to be able to figure/use these methods after I'm out of class

Round 3-Started off class reviewing twitter and tweetdeck which was suppose to be 10-15 mins., but like most new technology methods we spent a lot more time with this. The class was deeply involved with twitter and tweetdeck. At first I really didn't see a need for tweetdeck because I didn't see the need to have more then one conversation going, however, tweetdeck helps you a great deal to orginize all the tweets coming in. An example, in class we had a coversation on twitter using the #edchat-Topic"How do we teach kids to get beyond goggle searches to achieve critical thinking" -I was amazed on how many people were doing this all around the country. It was a little to much for me to try and read to keep up with what was being talked about and type something in on my opinions on the subject matter--which I learned that one just can't read everything that is coming in and just get to what you can and move on.

Next, we moved on to TED talks--This is were someone would go for the start of a school year video--to get staff fired up to begin the year, showing the power educators have, to motivate, start off on a good note, the impact a teacher has on a student--seemed like videos for a large group to get everyone off to a fresh start.

Last, we took a look at Goodreads, which is a way for information to fine you, not you looking for it--So, you pretty much set up your interests with different media outlets. They send you the latest stories on the different interests areas you like.

4th class things are a little better but far from really knowning how this all works
Social bookmarking is a method to organize, store, manage, and search for resources online. User save links to web pages that they want to remember and/or share. Most bookmark services try to have people use "tags" to help prganize.

Skype is away to talk with someone and see them at the same time. With skype, you can share a story, celebrate a birthday, hold a meeting, work with colleagues-as we did with "Chris Reuter" to talk about PLN plans and classroom use. On a personal note, I have used skype to talk with family all over the place, its really nice around holidays to be able to see and talk with family. (Still can't believe this is free)

Social Network is a group that share the same interest and/or information on a subject matter. I used classroom 2.0, to look for physical education groups and have developed a couple contacts in PE. I have been emailing a couple times talking about who people are following on twitter, blogs, and so on. I'm fining in my subject area, all this technology networking tools are very new in my subject area, that there is a chance to start something in the PE world.

Mike - Intersting journey so far. After our conversation last night, it seems that you are finding a few resources that are helping you to connect with other educators. Try hooking up with the PE teacher you "met" on the ning. It is odd how we find others with the same interests right in our backyard. Glad to have you in class!
